The Preface and the Update

I'm not sure what approach I plan on taking with this blog. Please to do not assume that the creation of this blog is a declaration of independence from the westover(ian). please, please, please! Rather, it's the beginning of a new phase, a phase that i have found myself inhabiting for quite sometime.

Now I have to decide what i want this to accomplish. i want to write, i want to share my writing, and i want to stay in contact with my friends and family. so this blog i guess will be a modge podge of postings: updates on my life, my thoughts on my life thus far, a book i've read, music i've listened to, people that anger me or bring me delight. all of this will be written with either a high or low regard for upholding english grammar. it really just depends on my mood, energy, and subject matter.

i am quite spontaneous, always have been, always will be. so we'll see where this takes us.

this first blog is a simple a catch up of annie's life since September 2009. I made each highlight simple by putting a dash beforehand. I hope to ease those of you who cannot sit still, yet are still semi-interested in what i might say.

-i took an extra semester finishing some english courses. and i had pneumonia.
-i had to write for the whitworthian. the majority of what i wrote was quite boring. and it challenged my desire to write.
-i live with amy brown, carrie bowers, paige hill, and kevyn stokes. we have a great home with great laughs, great times watching sex and the city and grey's, and a great room not so great.
-i may or may not have spiked my coffee every morning on my way to acting class.
-my cousin, Mitchel Hankey, died at the age of 18 in a car accident. he didn't wear a seatbelt. i wrote a poem about it. maybe i'll post it.
-i started dating someone. but i took my usual, "lets-make-this-as-complicated-as-possible" route to get there.
-i lost my phone in a movie theatre. on my way to pick up my phone from said destination, i got hit by a car. it was my fault.
-my debit card was run over by a car and then picked up by a nice family with a big dog.
-my grandpa and uncle were diagnosed with cancer. my mom spent christmas in wisconsin while my dad and sister stayed home. i missed her.
-i had a hell of a time finding a job. the depth of my immediate post-graduate shock/depression was quite pathetic. i watched two seasons of WB drama, everwood, and chose read wild at heart.
-i worked at a hotel for a day.
-i have read a total of 2 books in my free time. that will soon change. gilead and east of eden. they are gems though, i must say. (wild at heart would make it three, but i shudder at the thought of counting that book as a piece of literature)
-my grandfather and my uncle died three days apart from each other.
-i work with 4th and 5th graders. at this point i send you to the westover(ian) for an update on that job.
-my dad comes tomorrow and i couldn't be happier.

when my cousin mitchel died, my grandpa said one of the most important things i've ever heard. he said to my aunt daphne just after the greeting part of the memorial service had ended, "life's not fair, daphne. i love you sweetheart."

i really enjoy white russians, wine, le petit chat bread and pastries, and the elk.
that's all for now, folks.
